Thailand Open 2008 Poh Seng Song
100m Men - Round 3 Lance Tan
Lance commented, “This was my first Thai open and my first non-local competition since World Junior in 2006. Since it’s in a university, accommodation was just a stone’s throw away. Performance wise for me, it’d be an understatement to say I ran badly. Having just come off a 400m PB in the All-Comers a week before Thai open, I was expecting myself to run another good performance, and anything above 50 seconds would be a disaster. As good, or bad fate would have it, i was drawn into a good lane 4, with lane 5 who was the Thai guy who came in 2nd in 400m in the recent Sea Games 2007. The gun went and I followed him for the first 200m, a 23s flat, after which I died badly. On my part i would say i didn’t plan my race enough, but instead tried to use the competition to pull me and perhaps, if i had enough fitness, be able to sustain the last 200m, but i did not. I guess lack of international races as well as wrong race plan cost me dearly. Well, at least i tried to push. It didn’t work. A disappointing Thai open for me to say the least. Back to the drawing board.” 100m Men - Round 4 400m Men - Semifinal 2 Kenneth Wang Kan
Long Jump Men Kenneth Khoo
Kenneth commented, “Thai Open was fine. It’s definitely cooler than Singapore due to the heavy downpours in the afternoons and evenings. But the competition level and push was fantastic and it’ll be great if we could have more meets like this in future. Regarding my race, I guess I’m pretty satisfied with the timing. (48.48 semis, 48.60 finals) I’m currently in transition between my general preparation and specific training phase and my timing reflects the fact that everything is going according to plan. It was a gruelling schedule anyway (running three 400m races in two days) and I’m just glad i came through with the the timing i did.” 400m Men - Finals 400m Men - Semifinals 1 400m Men - Round 1 Ho New Fei
Ho New Fei commented, “As expected, the Thai Open was very professionally organized. The accommodation was comfortable, and there was good variety of food at the dining hall. The weather was actually quite good, as compared to Singapore, which I heard has been very arid and humid for the past week. Unfortunately, I was down with a very bad bout of viral flu, and couldn’t recover in time for the 400m hurdles. I ran the heats, but pulled out of the finals, as I couldn’t breathe properly. My performance for 100m hurdles, slated 2 days later, was better as I managed to get hold of antibiotics after my long hurdles event. I managed to scrape off a PB, but am pensive - if I were much fitter, would I have run better? Nonetheless, it was a good experience, and I thank Wings for giving me a chance to compete in such a well-organized meet” 100m Hurdle Women - Heat 1 400m Hurdle Women - Heat 2 Chia Chang Yi
Chia Chang Yi commented, “The trip there was good. Both manager did great jobs organizing the trip and tour around Thailand. My performance there was not good. I expected myself to cross the 14 meters mark but i only manage a distance of 13.64 meters. i did not qualify for the top 8, the standard there were very high. The top 3 are all at least 17 meters which is higher then sea games standard” Tay Jiunlin
Jiunlin commented, “Thai open was a really good experience to me. being able to train and throw in a world class stadium with such wonderful atmosphere was indeed incredible. It was a shame to me that I failed to perform. I was rather stressed, so much so I fail to deliver even a single decent throw. Another factor which was bothering me is that dear little ankle of mine. I failed to stay healthy and got my ankle/foot into deep trouble, even till now. It hurt so much i have to limp after the competition. Nevertheless, it was great experience to take part in such a magnificent event. It was great to see other throwers from around the neighbouring countries and even Central Asia! It was an eye opener to see someone lopping the spear over the 70m mark. Its not a very usual scene around” Javelin Men Junior7 TAY JIUN LIN WINGS ATHLETIC CLUB 46.18m Andrew SeowJavelin Men Junior8 ANDREW SEOW WINGS ATHLETIC CLUB 45.19m You can read a report here Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 2nd All Comers 2008 Men Triple Jump >12m Men Shot Put 7.26kg >9.5m Women 100 Meter Hurdles 0.840m Section 2 Wind: 0.7 Men 100 Meter Hurdles 0.914m Women 100 Meter <13.0s Men 100 Meter <11.0s Men 100 Meter 11.0-11.5 Men 100 Meter 11.5-12.0 Women 100 Meter 14.0-14.5 Section 2 Wind: 0.3 Section 3 Wind: -2.2 Section 5 Wind: -1.6 Women High Jump SH 1.20m Women Long Jump >=4.50m Flight 2 Men 400 Meter <52.0s Men 1500 Meter 4:40 - 5:10 1st All Comers 2008 Event 103A Women Triple Jump >=9.50m Event 108B Women 200 Meter 27.0-28.0 Event 108E Women 200 Meter 30.0-31.0 Section 2 Wind: 0.5 Section 3 Wind: 1.6 Event 109A Men 200 Meter < 23.5s Section 3 Wind: +0.0 Event 202A Men Long Jump > 6.00m Event 204 Women 400 Meter Hurdles 0.762m Event 204 Women 400 Meter Hurdles 0.762m Event 206 Men 400 Meter Hurdles 0.914m Event 208A Men 800 Meter < 2:10.0s Section 1 View the videos (AM session / PM session) SAA Road Relays 2008 Women Under-17 Champion
